Oluwatobi Wande Ojosipe (born October 18, 1985), popularly known as Wande Coal, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter recognized for his contributions to the AfroPop, Afrobeats, and R&B genres. Early Life and Education Wande Coal was born on October 18, 1985, in Lagos Island, Lagos State, Nigeria, to Chief Ibukun Olufunto and Omolara Oluwayemisi Ojosipe. He is the first of two children. He began his musical journey singing in a church choir. His primary education took place at Staff Nursery and Primary School Ijanikin, Lagos State, followed by Federal Government College Ijanikin Lagos for his secondary education. He later attended The University of Lagos (Unilag), where he studied Human Kinetics. Career Progression and Major Achievements Wande Coal began his career in the Nigerian music industry and gained prominence after signing with Mo' Hits Records (co-owned by Don Jazzy and D'banj) in 2006. His debut album, Mushin To Mo’Hits (2009), was a commercial success and is considered a classic in the Nigerian music scene. In 2010, he received multiple accolades, including Artiste of the Year and Revelation of the Year at the Hip Hop World Awards (now Headies), and African Artiste of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards. He has been cited as a major influence on younger generations of musicians such as Fireboy, Oxlade, and YKB. Notable Works and Current Status Wande Coal is known for a blend of AfroPop, Afrobeats, and R\&B music. Some of his notable songs include "Iskaba," "Kpe Paso," "Walking Away," and "Mama Maradona."
