Al-Farouq Aminu

Al-Farouq Ajiede Aminu (born September 21, 1990) is a Nigerian-American professional basketball player. He is recognized for his extensive career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and his significant contributions to the Nigerian national basketball team. Aminu's career is marked by his defensive versatility and athleticism, playing primarily as a forward. Early Life and Education Al-Farouq Aminu was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He is of Nigerian descent, with his parents originating from the Yoruba ethnic group. His surname, Al-Farouq, translates to "the Chief has arrived" in Arabic. Aminu attended Norcross High School in Norcross, Georgia, where he became a highly touted basketball prospect. He helped the school win two consecutive Georgia 5A state championships in 2007 and 2008. In his senior year, he averaged 23.1 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, earning selection to the 2008 McDonald's All-American Game. Following high school, Aminu committed to Wake Forest University. During his freshman season (2008–09), he emerged as a top player, earning a spot on the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Freshman Team. He played for two seasons before declaring for the NBA draft. Professional Career Progression Aminu was selected eighth overall in the 2010 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, beginning his professional journey.
