Joshua Aloiye Okogie (born September 1, 1998) is a Nigerian-American professional basketball player. Known for his intense defensive ability and athleticism, he has established himself as a valuable wing player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and as a key member of the Nigerian men's national basketball team, D'Tigers. Early Life and Education Okogie was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to the United States with his family when he was three years old. He grew up in Snellville, Georgia, where he attended Shiloh High School. Although lightly recruited out of high school, Okogie committed to Georgia Tech, where he played collegiate basketball for two seasons (2016–2018). At Georgia Tech, Okogie quickly became a standout player. As a freshman, he earned a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2017. During his sophomore season, he cemented his status as one of the best guards in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), averaging 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, and was named to the Third-team All-ACC in 2018. Professional Career Progression Okogie was selected 20th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2018 NBA Draft. He immediately became a regular rotation player for the team, celebrated for his defensive tenacity and energy. He spent four seasons with the Timberwolves, primarily serving as a key role player off the bench, earning recognition for guarding opposing teams' best players. In July 2022, Okogie signed with the Phoenix Suns. In Phoenix, he often filled a starting role during the 2022-2023 season, contributing significantly to the team’s defensive identity. He later joined the Charlotte Hornets, and most recently, the Houston Rockets. Major Achievements and Notable Works Okogie’s professional career highlights include his consistent defensive impact in the NBA. Internationally, he has been a prominent figure for the Nigerian men's national team, helping D’Tigers qualify for and compete in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
