Evangelist Dr. Bola Are (born October 1, 1954, in Erio, Western Region, British Nigeria, now in Ekiti State, Nigeria) is a highly influential Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter, and philanthropist. She is recognized as one of the pioneers of Nigerian gospel music, establishing a career that spans several decades and has profoundly impacted the genre internationally.Early Life and Education Born into the family of Elder and Mrs. T. A. Babayomi from Erio in Ekiti State, Bola Are displayed a gift for singing from the age of two. She was raised within the Christ Apostolic Church (C.A.C.), being mentored by prominent prophets like Apostle Ayodele Babalola and Prophet T.O. Obadare. She attended C.A.C Primary School in Erio Ekiti and C.A.C Grammar School Efon Alaaye (Caposto). Later, she pursued higher education, studying Accounting at Ibadan Polytechnic. In July 1985, she obtained a Doctorate degree in Music from St. John's University, Missouri, U.S.A.Career Progression and Achievements Bola Are began her ministry and musical career officially on June 26, 1973, by forming a music band known as Bola and Her Spiritual Singers. Her spiritual inspiration is often cited as coming directly from her time spent on the mountain, which she credits to the Holy Spirit. Her professional recording career launched in August 1977 with the release of her first musical album, "Baba Ku Ise." Her dynamic style and spiritual focus propelled her to national and international prominence, taking the Nigerian gospel music genre across the world. As of 2014, she had released over seventy albums, solidifying her status as a prolific artist in the industry.Personal Life and Philanthropy In 1977, Bola Are married Pastor J.O. Are, a banker by profession from Owo in Ondo State, who has since passed away. They are blessed with children, many of whom are also singers and musicians. Beyond her musical ministry, she is deeply involved in humanitarian work. In 1995, she founded the Bola Are Gospel Foundation International, an organization dedicated to catering to the needs of the less privileged in Nigeria. She continues to be an active and revered figure in the Nigerian gospel music scene.
