David Oyelowo: Biography and Career David Oyetokunbo Oyelowo was born on April 1, 1976, in Oxford, England, to Nigerian parents. His father, Stephen Oyelowo, worked for the British Airways, and his mother, a railway worker, came from a royal family in Oyo State, Nigeria. Oyelowo and his family moved to Lagos, Nigeria, when he was six years old, and he attended a boarding school there. They returned to London when he was 14. He first discovered acting while attending the City and Islington College. From 1999 to 2002, he trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).Career Progression and Notable Works Oyelowo's career spans television, theatre, and film, establishing him as a highly respected international actor. He began his professional career on the stage, notably becoming the first Black actor to play a history-governing role for the Royal Shakespeare Company when he took on the title role in *Henry VI, Part 1* and *Part 2* in a 2001 production. He received significant early recognition for his role as Danny Hunter in the British spy drama series *Spooks* (2002–2004).
