**Ego Boyo: Biography** **Early Life and Education** Nwakaego Nnamani, widely known as Ego Boyo, was born on September 6, 1968, in Nigeria. She holds Nigerian and Barbadian citizenship. She left Nigeria just ten days after her birth during the Nigerian Civil War and spent the first four years of her life in Barbados before returning to Enugu in 1971. In 1976, her family relocated to Lagos. Boyo pursued higher education at the University of Benin, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts. **Career Progression and Notable Works** Boyo's career in the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, began in the early 1990s. Her breakthrough came with the popular television series *Checkmate* (1991–1995), where she played the character of Anne Haatrope, acting alongside Francis Agu and Richard Mofe Damijo. Following the conclusion of *Checkmate*, Boyo, alongside its creator Igwe, worked on the film *Violated*, released in 1996, in which she served as a producer and actress. In 1996, Boyo founded her own production company, Temple Productions, and later Temple Films and Temple Studio. Temple Productions' first major client was the "Obasanjo For President" campaign in 1998, for which the company produced jingles, music videos, and advertisements. Over the years, Boyo has established herself as a prominent actress, filmmaker, and entrepreneur. Her notable works as a producer and executive producer include *To Live Again* (1998), *Keeping Faith* (2002), *30 Days* (2007), and *A Hotel Called Memory* (2017). She also acted in *The Mr X Family Show* (2018–2023) and was an actress in *La Femme Anjola* (2021). **Major Achievements and Current Status** Ego Boyo has received recognition for her work as a producer. Her 2019 movie, *The Ghost and the House of Truth*, directed by Akin Omotoso, was highly acclaimed, winning the Best World Narrative Feature at the Urbanworld Film Festival in 2019 and the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) award for Best Nigerian Film and Achievement in Production Design in 2020. *A Hotel Called Memory* also won the Best Experimental Film at the Blackstar Film Festival in 2017. Beyond filmmaking, Boyo is actively involved in social advocacy and leadership. She served as the 60th President of the International Women's Society (IWS), an independent, non-political, non-governmental, and non-profit organization. She is the founder and trustee of Tempio Media Advocacy Foundation, which supports multiple charities through media advocacy, and serves on the board of the Mirabel Centre Lagos, Nigeria's first Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). Boyo is also a founder-director and non-executive director on the board of Lagos Preparatory and Secondary School Ikoyi. She is married to Omamofe Boyo, the deputy group chief executive officer at Oando Plc, and they have three children. She remains an active figure in the Nigerian film industry and philanthropic circles.
