He began his education at the Government Primary School, Angba Iggah, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1987. Akwashiki later received a diploma in Mass Communications from the University of Lagos. Before his career in politics, he began his professional life at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).Career Progression and Achievements Akwashiki’s political career was characterized by consistency and ascent through various legislative roles. He first served as a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, where he demonstrated strong leadership and rose to become the Majority Leader and later the Deputy Speaker. He was first elected to the Senate in 2019 to represent Nasarawa North Senatorial District and was re-elected for a second term in 2023 on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), making him the only senator from Nasarawa North to secure two consecutive terms since the state's creation. During his time in the National Assembly, Akwashiki held several key committee positions, including Chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, and Vice Chairman of the Committee on Media and Public Affairs.Current Status Senator Godiya Akwashiki died on December 31, 2025, at the age of 52, while receiving treatment at a hospital in India. His death was widely mourned by political leaders across the country, who paid tribute to his integrity, principled leadership, and commitment to national service. He was laid to rest following a funeral service in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
