John Ikechukwu Okafor (17 October 1961 – 2 March 2024), widely known by his stage name Mr. Ibu, was a highly celebrated Nigerian actor, comedian, and influencer. Recognized for his comedic timing and distinctive roles, he was one of the most prominent figures in the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood.Early Life and Education John Okafor was born on October 17, 1961, in Umunekwu, Eastern Region, Nigeria (present-day Enugu State). He grew up in Umunekwu and hailed from Amuri in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State. Okafor faced financial difficulties early in life, which impacted his education. He was admitted to the College of Education, Yola, but had to pull out. He later enrolled at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu. Before becoming an actor, Okafor held various jobs to support himself, including working as a hairstylist, venturing into photography, and working in a company that produced crates. He was also a boxer, football coach, and karate practitioner.Career Progression and Major Achievements Okafor began his career in the Nigerian film industry in the late 1970s, but rose to significant prominence in the early 2000s. He became a household name after playing the lead role in the 2004 movie *Mr. Ibu*, which also became his enduring stage name.
