**Justus Esiri OON** Chief Justus Esiri (born November 20, 1942 – died February 19, 2013) was a highly respected Nigerian actor and one of the most significant figures in the country's film industry, commonly known as Nollywood. His career spanned over four decades, establishing him as a pioneering and influential artist recognized for his versatile performances in both television and film.Early Life and Education Justus Esiri was born in Oria-Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria, on November 20, 1942. He attended Urhobo College in Effurun, which was then part of Bendel State. Following his schooling in Nigeria, Esiri pursued higher education in Germany. His academic journey in Europe included studies at Maximillan University in Munich (1964), Prof. Weners Institute of Engineering in West Berlin (1967), and the Ahrens School of Performing Arts (1968).Career Progression and Notable Works Esiri began his acting career while residing in Europe. He initially worked as a German translator for the Voice of Nigeria in Germany. His pivotal career moment came when the Nigerian government invited him back to Nigeria to star in the popular television series, "The Village Headmaster." Esiri accepted the role, which launched his domestic career and made him a household name. Throughout his active years, from 1968 until his death in 2013, Esiri appeared in numerous notable Nollywood and television productions. His prominent film roles include *Wasted Years* (2000), *Forever* (1997), *Corridors of Power* (2005), *The Last Knight* (2005), *The Tyrant* (2005), *Twin Sword* (2012), *Doctor Bello* (2013), and his final screen appearance in *The Assassin's Practice* (2013).Major Achievements and Recognition Justus Esiri was widely regarded as a veteran of Nigerian cinema and received national acclaim for his contributions to the arts. The Nigerian government honored him with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), one of the nation's highest honors, recognizing his vital role in developing Nigerian filmmaking. Posthumously, he was awarded the Best Actor award at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards for his performance in *Assassins Practice*.Current Status Justus Esiri died on February 19, 2013, in Lagos, Nigeria, at the age of 70. Although his career has concluded, he is remembered as a cornerstone of Nigerian drama. He is the father of popular Nigerian musician Dr. Sid (Sidney Esiri).
