Elizabeth Benson, widely known as Liz Benson, is a Nigerian actress, philanthropist, and television personality, celebrated for her influential career in the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, particularly during the 1990s and early 2000s. She is recognized for her versatility and impactful roles that helped define the era of Nigerian home videos.Early Life and Education Liz Benson was born on April 5, 1966, in Etinan, Akwa Ibom State, located in southern Nigeria. Her interest in acting began at an early age, as she started performing when she was just five years old. For her tertiary education, Benson attended Sylvania State College in the United States of America, where she earned a degree in Dramatic Arts.Career Progression and Notable Works Benson's professional career began in 1993 with the television soap opera *Fortunes*, where she played the role of Mrs. Agnes Johnson for approximately two years on NTA Network. Her transition to the burgeoning Nigerian film industry (Nollywood) cemented her fame. In 1994, her prominent role in the successful home video *Glamour Girls*, which focused on escorting, established her as a major film actress. Throughout her active years, Benson starred in a horde of movies, including major works like *The Woman in Me*, *Evil Men 1 and 2*, *Shame*, *Conspiracy*, *Izaga*, *Burden*, *Stolen Child*, *Faces*, *Dead End*, and *Tycoon*. Benson temporarily quit acting in 1996 but later returned to the industry. Since her return, she has been selective with her roles, choosing films that align with her faith as a born-again Christian. Notable recent works include *Lotanna* (2017) and *Still Falling* (2021), where she played Mrs. Kuku.
