Overview
Mercy Aigbe is a Nigerian actress, model, filmmaker, producer, and director widely recognized for her significant contributions to the Yoruba indigenous movie industry. She is also a noted fashion entrepreneur. Early Life and Education Mercy Aigbe was born on January 1, 1978, in Edo State, Nigeria, to Pa Aigbe and Mrs. Abisola Grace Owodunni. She hails from Benin City, the capital of Edo State. For her early education, she attended St. Francis Primary School and later Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School in Ikeja, Lagos State. She continued her studies at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, where she obtained an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Financial Studies. In 2001, Aigbe graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in Theater Arts. Career Progression and Notable Works Mercy Aigbe began her professional acting career in popular television drama series like "Papa Ajasco." She officially entered the Nollywood film industry in 2006. Her career received a major boost with the movie 'Ara', produced by Remi Olupo in Ibadan. She is particularly known for her roles in Yoruba-language movies. Beyond acting, Aigbe has ventured into business, opening her clothing store, Mag Divas Boutique, in Lagos in November 2014, and later opening a branch in Ibadan. Major Achievements and Recognition Aigbe has been recognized for her work in film and fashion. She has won several awards, including the Links and Glitz World Awards for Fashion Entrepreneur of The Year (2015) and the City People Entertainment Awards for Yoruba Movie Personality of the Year (2015). Her acting has earned her multiple nominations, including Best Actress in a Lead Role – Yoruba and Best Supporting Actress – Yoruba at the Best of Nollywood Awards. In 2023, she won the Eko Heritage Awards for Leadership Award for Youth and Empowerment, and in 2024, she won Best Supporting Actress at the Best of Nollywood Awards. Current Status Mercy Aigbe continues to be active in the entertainment and business sectors. In her personal life, she has two children. She married Kazim Adeoti, popularly known as Adekaz, in 2022. In 2023, Mercy Aigbe converted to Islam and changed her name to Hajiya Meena.
