Overview
Richard Mofe-Damijo, often referred to by his initials RMD, is a distinguished Nigerian actor, writer, producer, lawyer, and former politician. He is recognized as one of the most prominent and respected figures in the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood. Early Life and Education Richard Mofe-Damijo was born on July 6, 1961, in Aladja, Udu Kingdom, in present-day Delta State, Nigeria. He received his secondary education at Midwest College, Warri, and later attended Anglican Grammar School, where his interest in performance was nurtured as a member of the drama club. RMD pursued higher education in the arts, studying theatre arts at the University of Benin. Decades later, in a pursuit of continued education, he returned to academics and studied law at the University of Lagos, graduating in 2004. Career Progression and Notable Works Mofe-Damijo began his professional career as a journalist before transitioning to acting. He made his television debut in the late 1980s with the Nigerian soap opera *Ripples*. His transition into the film industry saw him quickly rise to prominence, becoming a staple in Nollywood. He co-wrote and produced his first film, *Out of Bounds* (1997). Over his extensive career, RMD has starred in hundreds of films across various genres. Some of his notable works include *Scores to Settle*, *Diamond Ring*, *Keeping Faith*, *The Wedding Party* (2016), *Oloibiri* (2016), and *King of Boys: The Return of the King* (2021). His performances are often characterized by versatility and depth, solidifying his status as a screen icon. Major Achievements and Public Service RMD has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2005. His influence extends beyond acting; in 2008, he was appointed the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, Nigeria, where he served until 2015. This period marked a temporary hiatus from acting, during which he focused on public service. Current Status Today, Richard Mofe-Damijo remains highly active in the film industry, taking on roles in major Nigerian and international productions. He also maintains a strong presence as a public speaker, philanthropist, and media personality, continuing to influence Nigerian entertainment and culture. He is married and is a father.
