Ruona J. Meyer is a Nigerian investigative journalist, reporter, and writer, recognized for her critical reporting, particularly concerning health and social issues in Africa. She gained international recognition as the first Nigerian journalist to be nominated for an International Emmy Award. Early Life and Education Born in Benin City, Nigeria, in 1982, Ruona Meyer is one of five children of Rachel and Godwin Agbroko. Her father, Godwin Agbroko, was a renowned Nigerian journalist who won the PEN/Barbara Goldsmith Freedom to Write Award in 1997 before his assassination in December 2006. Meyer holds an undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. She is currently a PhD student at De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester. Career Progression and Notable Works Meyer began her journalism career with her first byline appearing in the *This Day* newspaper in Lagos on June 12, 2003. Throughout her career, her work has been featured across numerous international and Nigerian media platforms, including the BBC, *Financial Times*, Reuters, *Daily Trust*, and *234Next*. She has also produced street features for Battabox. Major Achievements and Awards Meyer is highly decorated for her investigative reporting. Her major breakthrough came with the 2018 documentary, *Sweet, Sweet Codeine*, produced for BBC Africa Eye, which exposed the widespread misuse of codeine-based cough syrups in Nigeria.
