Sule Lamido: Nigerian Politician and Former Governor Sule Lamido (born August 30, 1948) is a Nigerian politician and former civil servant who is best known for serving as the second Executive Governor of Jigawa State from 2007 to 2015. A prominent figure in the People's Democratic Party (PDP), his career spans decades in federal and state government, including a tenure as Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs. Early Life and Education Born in Bamaina, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido began his early education at the Birnin Kudu Primary School. He continued his studies at the Government College, Kano. After his secondary education, Lamido pursued further administrative training, completing courses in Political Science and Administration, which laid the foundation for his extensive public service career. Career Progression Lamido’s political career began in the early 1980s. He was a member of the House of Representatives during the Second Republic. His influence grew significantly during the transition to the Fourth Republic. In 1999, he was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, serving until 2003. This role positioned him as a key figure in Nigeria’s diplomatic relations on the global stage. In 2007, Lamido successfully contested and was elected as the Executive Governor of Jigawa State under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). He was re-elected in 2011, completing his second four-year term in 2015. His administration focused heavily on infrastructural development, education, and healthcare across the state. Major Achievements and Notable Works During his two terms as Governor of Jigawa State, Lamido is often credited with implementing extensive development projects.
