Olubankole Wellington (born March 27, 1981), widely known by his stage name Banky W, is a Nigerian singer, rapper, actor, entrepreneur, and politician. He is a prominent figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry, known for his smooth R&B style, influential role as a music executive, and for his foray into filmmaking and public service. Early Life and Education Banky W was born in the United States to Nigerian parents but relocated to Lagos, Nigeria, at the age of five. He completed his primary and secondary education in Nigeria. After high school, he returned to the U.S. to pursue higher education, earning a scholarship to study Industrial Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York, where he began honing his musical talents, releasing his first album, *Undeniable*, in 2003. Career Progression and Notable Works Banky W established his own record label, Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E.), in 2002 while still in college. Upon returning to Nigeria, he quickly rose to prominence in the Nigerian music scene with his R\&B and Afrobeats-infused music. His breakthrough came with his 2009 song "Lagos Party." His notable albums include *Mr. Capable* (2008), *The W Experience* (2009), and *R\&BW* (2013). E.M.E. became one of Nigeria's most influential labels, responsible for launching the careers of artists like Wizkid and Skales. In addition to music, Banky W transitioned into film, starring in and producing several major Nollywood productions, including the highly successful movie *The Wedding Party* (2016) and its sequel.
