Ayodeji Richard Makun (born 19 August 1971), professionally known as A.Y Comedian, is a highly influential Nigerian actor, comedian, radio and television presenter, producer, film director, and entrepreneur. He is one of the most recognized figures in Nigerian stand-up comedy and film production. Early Life and Education Makun was born in Ondo State, Nigeria, and hails from Ifon, in the Ose Local Government Area. He is the eldest male child in a family of seven. He pursued his higher education at Delta State University, Abraka, where he graduated in 2003 with a degree in Theatre Arts, after studying for nine years. During his time as a student, Makun was actively involved in campus life, earning several accolades including the Jaycee Club Socio-Personality Award, Best Show Business Promoter (2001), Most Celebrated Student on Campus (2001), and Most Fashionable Student on Campus (1999 and 2000). Career Progression and Notable Works A.Y’s career in comedy began to flourish after his graduation. He initially gained prominence as the personal assistant and event manager to fellow comedian Ali Baba. This mentorship proved instrumental, paving the way for him to transition into his own career as a stand-up comedian. He established his flagship annual comedy concert, "A.Y Live," which quickly grew into one of the largest and most anticipated comedy shows in Nigeria. Furthermore, he developed popular comedy skits that garnered a massive following across various media platforms. His directorial and production debut, the 2014 movie *30 Days in Atlanta*, was a major commercial success, breaking Nollywood box office records at the time. This was followed by other commercially successful movies, including *A Trip to Jamaica* (2016) and *10 Days in Suncity* (2017). His other notable works include *Being Mrs. Elliot*. In addition to his box office success, A.Y has received recognition for his work, including being awarded the Best Comedian in Nigeria at the City People Entertainment Award (2009) and the Most Creative Comedian in Nigeria at the Nigerian Entertainment Award. He also won the Best Comedian of the Year and Most Creative Entrepreneur in Nigeria at the Nigerian Entertainment Award (2013).
