Overview
Samson Uche Mogekwu (born November 30, 1974), widely known by his stage name Samsong, is a Nigerian contemporary gospel artist, singer, songwriter, and minister. Based in Abuja, Nigeria, he is recognized as a consistent figure in the Nigerian gospel music scene, blending R&B and contemporary gospel genres. Early Life and Education Samsong was born on November 30, 1974, in Delta State, in the southern region of Nigeria. He began his singing journey during his high school years, which is when he adopted the name Samsong. For his higher education, he attended Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, where he majored in Accounting. Career Progression Samsong's professional music career began in the early 1990s. Initially, he formed a music quartet called Praise Creation. The group was signed to Ivory Music Label and released their debut album, *Best of Life*, in 1996. Following the eventual dissolution of the group, Samsong transitioned into a solo artist, releasing his debut solo album, *Count Your Blessings*, in 2002. His career has seen collaborations with international artists, including recording and performing with German gospel producer Chris Lass. He is known for his hit single “Bianule” and “Odogwu” featuring Chioma. Major Achievements and Notable Works Samsong's discography includes notable albums such as *Still Counting* (2004), *The World of My Dreams* (2007), *Church Boy* (2010), *On Top of The World* (2015), and *My Sound of Worship* (2017). His album *Church Boy Reloaded* was released in 2015, and his 2023 album is titled *Master of the World*. He has been recognized for his vocal talent, receiving the “Best Vocalist of the Year Award” at the Today's Music Award in 2005 and The Amen's awards. In 2007, he received "The Grace Honorary Award for excellence" and was nominated for “The Best Gospel Artist” at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards. Current Status Samsong remains active in the music industry as a singer, songwriter, and minister, continually releasing new music and performing globally. His touring has included international engagements, such as a headlining tour of the island of Seychelles in August 2009, where he was received by Vice President Joseph Belmont. He operates under the label Boogie Down Concept.
