Akinwunmi Ambode
Akinwunmi Ambode (born June 14, 1963) is a Nigerian accountant, public finance expert, and politician who served as the 14th Governor of Lagos State, Nigeria, from 2015 to 2019. He is recognized for his extensive career in the Lagos State civil service and his administration’s focus on infrastructural development and urban renewal during his tenure. Early Life and Education Akinwunmi Ambode was born in Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria. He began his formal education at St. Jude’s Primary School, Ebute Meta, Lagos, and later attended Federal Government College, Warri, Delta State, where he excelled academically and obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC). Ambode went on to study Accounting at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), graduating with honors at the age of 21 in 1984. He further obtained a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos in 1998. Ambode is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management. Career Progression in Public Service Ambode's career in the Lagos State civil service began in 1985 when he joined the Lagos State Waste Disposal Board (now LAWMA). His expertise in finance quickly propelled him through the ranks. Over the next 27 years, he held various high-profile positions, including Accountant General of the state and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance.
