Leon Balogun
Leon Aderemi Balogun is a professional footballer known primarily for his role as a center-back or right-back. He was born on June 28, 1988, in Berlin, West Germany. Balogun's early football development took place in Germany, playing for local clubs such as Hertha BSC, Hertha Zehlendorf, and Türkiyemspor Berlin. Balogun began his senior career in 2007 with Türkiyemspor Berlin, scoring four goals in 29 appearances. In 2008, he moved to Hannover 96, where he played for the reserve team before making his Bundesliga debut for the first team in April 2009 against Hamburger SV. He later joined Werder Bremen in 2010, playing primarily for their reserve squad. His career saw a breakthrough in the Bundesliga with a move to Fortuna Düsseldorf in July 2012, followed by stints at Darmstadt 98 and Mainz 05, further establishing him in German football. A significant career move came in 2018 when Balogun signed with Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion on a two-year deal. He later moved to Wigan Athletic and then to Rangers FC in Scotland, where he enjoyed success, making 65 total appearances and winning the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020–21 season. After a spell at Queens Park Rangers, Balogun returned to Rangers for a second spell. He has also represented Nigeria at the international level, earning 46 caps and scoring one goal between 2014 and 2022. He was part of the Nigerian squad that competed in the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 in Egypt. As of the current status, Balogun is playing for Aris Limassol. Throughout his career, he has been noted for his defensive prowess and experience playing across different European leagues. In addition to his professional career, Balogun is also known for speaking out on social issues, including the need for a collective response from players to racism in football.
